MANUSCRIPTS. -- A group of copyists' manuscripts, comprising: [Giovanni Pierluigi da PALESTRINA]. Messa a 8 . Betta Vestiva i Colli. Madrigale d. Pier Luigi Palestrina ; bound with: Ruggiero GIOVANELLI. Credo a 8 . Segue della Messa Vestiva i Colli , Italian manuscript dated 1744, both works in the same hand scored for eight voices and basso continuo, brown ink, 16 pp., 2° (285 x 215mm.) . The second part of the Palestrina manuscript is entitled 'Cosi le Chi'ome ome' and the madrigal was originally published for five voice only in an edition of 1566 ( RISM Recueils Imprimés 1566 . ) . The Giovanelli manuscript is unpublished: only one other copy of the work is located in the Vatican ( Grove ). - [Leonardo LEO]. Contemporary manuscript copy of Dixit Dominus , full score, 64 pages, 2° . This setting of Dixit Dominus is probably the most famous of the seven that Leo wrote and the present manuscript is dated three years earlier than other extant manuscripts and would seem to represent the earliest known source of this work. - [KEYBOARD MANUSCRIPT]. A collection of works for keyboard, British, dated '1744', including works by Hasse, San Martini, Pescetti, Palm, Handel, Geminiani, Arne and 'Fenton', some unrecorded works and arrangements, 44 pages, oblong 2 . . - [Giovanni Battista CASALI]. Manucript of Messa a quattro voci Del Sig Maestro Casali , black ink, with later pencil annotations on the title page, 33 pages, oblong 2° - [Francesco DURANTE]. Manuscript of Duetti Serii ; bound with: [Stanislao MATTEI]. Manuscript of Aria Già che mi trema in seno con Strumenti Obbligi , English manuscript on paper watermarked 1803, 120 pages . These duets are didactic compositions based on Alessandro Scarlatti's solo cantatas and were not published until circa 1822. Durante taught Pergolesi and Paisiello. The work by Matteo, who taught Rossini and Donizetti, appears to be unpublished. - [Giovanni BIANCHI]. Manuscript of Tema con 10 Variazzione for piano, black ink, 30 pages . An interesting collection of manuscripts, including copies of works elsewhere unrecorded and unpublished. (6)
