.38-55 caliber, 36" extra heavy part round/octagonal barrel, S/N 31609. With matching numbers throughout. The caliber is marked at the breech of the barrel. The left side of the frame is marked with the Marlin company name and address, along with Ballard's patent. With spirit level and windgauge front sight and a mid-range Vernier tang peep sight. The leather blinder is still attached to the peep sight. With double set triggers and a fool loop lever. The forearm is checkered and features a tapered forend. The pistol grip buttstock is also checkered and features a raised cheeckpiece and a Swiss style buttplate. At 17.5 lbs, this is perhaps one of, if not the heaviest Ballard ever made. Also come with a shooters box. Condition: The barrel contains most of the original blue finish, with some plum streaking, mostly on the underside of the barrel towards the muzzle. The frame has a gray patina, with some case coloring showing through on the top, along with some brown spotting near the breech and along the underside. All of the nickel finish is worn from the buttplate. The wood has some slight handling marks, but is in good to very good overall condition. The bore and action are excellent.
