Later issue of volumes 3 and 4 of "the most beautiful of all shell books" (Forbes). The work is generally found with 80 plates (see preceding lots), constituting the first two volumes, with 80 plates. This is volumes 3 and 4 comprising only the title, an "Explanatory Table" and the plates in each volume. The final 80 plates did not actually appear until 1792 and the plates were issued over an extended period of time. The above volumes are undated, the titles are window mounted on "Ruse & Turners" paper dated "1810" other plates are on J. Whatman paper. Individual copies can vary considerably in terms of the supplementary material such as titles, plates of medals, tables, observations on tables and so on.
