His first collaboration with Matisse came in 1918 when he published Les Jockeys Camoufles, Trois Poemes par Monsieur Pierre Reverdy . Testament to a lifelong friendship, this volume originally constituted two important numbers of Verve, which reproduced 40 lithographs after cut-outs by Matisse.
