MAZZOCCHIUS, Jacobus. Epigrammata antiquae urbis . Rome: Jacobus Mazzocchius, April 1521. 4°. 21 woodcut illustrations, including one full-page woodcut of the Pantheon, some ancient Roman inscriptions are set within woodcut borders, some full architectural borders, some designed as ornamental tablets, others composed of separate strips. (Title lightly soiled, part of lower margin of title excised and laminated, lightly spotted, mainly marginal.) 20th-century vellum (front cover lightly rubbed), g.e. FIRST EDITION of Mazzochius' major work as a printer and antiquarian, in which he probably used all of his current stock of borders. "The work is sometimes recorded under the name of Angelo Colocci as principal editor. Colocci was the owner of an important collection of Roman inscriptions and sculpture, and pieces from his collection are included in this volume" (Mortimer).
