Contemporary three-quarters morocco for "H. Steffens" (foot of spines), rebacked preserving original backstrips. 10 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches (27 x 17.5 cm); with 100 lithographed plates, most hand-colored, a few printed in color. Very clean overall but some intermittent spotting, original portion of binding rubbed, hinges strengthened. A very clean set, vibrantly colored. The issue without Hall's name and calling for 100 plates on the title pages and plate lists. Plate counts in this work vary: this set with 100 plates as called for but bound without the portrait of Kaipolequa in volume I but containing two additional portraits not called for on the plate list of volume II being Billy Bowlegs and John Ross The third volume complete as issued.
