Code and various other performing artists; also the "Great Edisonia Animated Pictures" shown by Mr G. D. Radcliffe. The reverse of each printed programme features a Robert Hurst shoes advertisement. (5 items; all printed by Syd. Day., Melb.). While all 5 programmes (each approx. 29 x 15cm) have faults, these are exceptionally rare survivors of the series of summer concerts which were a feature of Melbourne life in the early 1900s. These are the first examples we have offered. As reported in the Melbourne Cricket Club Annual Report for 1901-02 at pp.19-20, "The Open-air Concerts have been carried out with marked success. Twenty-four Concerts were given, the average attendance of members at each Concert being 1641, the attendance of the general public also being of a very satisfactory character. During the season the Committee introduced a new feature - viz., the Edisonia pictures - which proved such a success..... As the Concerts have now become an established institution, the Committee hope during next season to make them still more attractive."
