Provenance Courtesy of Steve Turner Contemporary Catalogue Essay “I see myself as a post-Internet artist, someone whose work is informed by my act of surfing the web and engaging in its aesthetics.” - MICHAEL STANIAK Michael Staniak’s paintings merge the aesthetics of digital technology (particularly the graphical interfaces developed for touchpad devices, smartphones, personal computers and the Internet) with an analog practice. When viewed at a distance, the paintings bear an uncanny resemblance to inkjet prints but upon closer reflection reveal texture and depth. Each painting in Staniak’s practice responds to the one that preceded it, either in relation to a specific painting technique, found image on the Internet, or a digital drawing program.
