Walker 1 engraved plan (dep. the ruins of Petra), 11 lithogr. views/ plates, 13 wood-engr. views/ plates, 2 wood-engr. full-p. ills. & num. wood-engr. text-ills. 8vo (ca. 21 x 13,5 cm.), 19th-cent. half-calf with gilt (ribbed) spine. ¶ Cf. Weber 277. Rare first English translation of a travel-report by the French archaeologist & traveller Simon Joseph Léon Emmanuel, Marquis de Laborde (1807-1869) concerning his journey in the Middle East visiting the archaeological city Petra in Jordan. – Lacks probably a lithogr. frontisp. (but the number of ills. is complete according to the index). Upper joint broken, both inner hinges strengthened with cloth. Occ. sl. foxed/ browned, 2 plates bound in a wrong order, but nevertheless in good condition.
