Beschreibung:

.69 caliber, 42.5" barrel. Lockplate stamped in script US/Springfield running vertical. Bayonet stud on top of the barrel. Complete with two swivels. Angular bayonet stamped US. Condition: All metal surfaces are covered in a deep, rich, dark brown finish. Eagle on lockplate pointing towards butt that indicates made prior to 1802. No markings on top of buttplate. Musket has no evidence of being shortened from 44" to 42". Bayonet stud is on topside of barrel - which is consistent with pre-1799 musket. All other features are pre-1800. There are barrel proofs, but very vague. Stock and bands are proportional to a 42" barrel. There are no stock cartouches or markings. Wood is in very good condition and darkened from oil and use. Fragments of wood missing behind the lockplate and partially on the underside. Small sliver of wood missing behind the tang. Bayonet with even pitting throughout. Ramrod is a very old period replacement. Accompanying the musket is an original 1795 musket bayonet. This is a great example as a pre-1800 Springfield musket and these firearms are seldom encountered.
