Beschreibung:

.30-40 caliber, 26" barrel length, S/N 387787. Blue barrel; barrel bands with hardened receiver. Walnut stock and handguard. Has 1901 modified rear sight. Markings on left side of the receiver in two lines "US" over "Model 1898 Springfield Armory" followed by serial number. Has cartouche on left side of stock of "JSA" over "1902" in script. Has "P" firing proof marking behind triggerguard. Comes complete with a rare Krag Bayonet made specifically made for the 26" barrel. The bayonet has "US" and "1902" marked on the ricasso. The handle is marked on each side: one side is "34," and the other side is "2 D." Marked "26" on the pommel. The bayonet has a metal scabbard. The serial number of this Krag falls in the very rare group that is a Board of Ordinance rifle. The War Department wanted to find a rifle that met the demands of the infantry and cavalry, thus reducing cost and connecting both branches. Discovering one shoulder arm for both branches would be a huge cost savings and reduce any logistical issues. There were only 100 rifles made and issued to the Plattsburgh Barracks, New York for trial. This specimen comes complete with the rare bayonet as well. Condition: The barrel and barrel bands retain much of the original blue finish. The receiver has a nice hardened finish. The walnut stock and handguard are in great condition with minor nicks and dings. The markings and cartouche are sharp and crisp. The bore is in very good condition. The bayonet has a dark patina on the handle. The metal parts have a metal to plum patina. The scabbard has minor nicks and dings. The blade is in good condition and the markings are sharp and crisp. Overall condition is very good.
