Fa 12 Anm. - Monumentale, prachtvoll illustrierte Chronik der französischen Könige bis zu Heinrich IV. - Die Tafeln zeigen kunstgewerbliche Gegenstände, Statuen, Gemälde, Kostümdarstellungen, Hofszenen etc. - Montfaucon (1655-1741) war katholischer Gelehrter und beschäftigte sich ausführlich mit dem klassischen Altertum und der Kirchengeschichte. - Seiten tls. am äußeren Rand leicht gebräunt, vereinzelt minimal braun- bzw. stockfleckig, Bd. 2 ersten Bll. mit etw. wurmstichig (kein Textverlust), vereinzelte Blätter minimal eingerissen bzw. mit kleiner Fehlstelle am unteren Rand. Innenspiegel des Bd. V etwas leimschattig. - Innen sehr gutes, sauberes Exemplar des seltenen Werkes.
First edition. - With 1 engr. portrait and 306 (113 double paged, 1 folded) copper engraving plates. - Contemp. leather with rich spine gilding, gilded spine title on red spine label (slightly rubbed and bumped and chafed). - Monumental, magnificently illustrated chronicle of the French kings up to Henry IV - The tables show craftwork objects, statues, paintings, costume illustrations, court scenes etc. - Montfaucon (1655-1741) was a catholic scholar and studied classical antiquity and church history in detail. - Pages partially slightly browned at margins, in a few places minor brownings and foxings, first sheets of Vol. 2 with some wormholes (no loss of text), some leaves with minimal tears and small missing parts at lower margin. - Very good, clean copy of this rare work.
