Half-title, engraved portrait, engraved title vignettes, first title printed in red and black, woodcut head- and tail-pieces (some light foxing and dampstaining, mostly marginal). Contemporary vellum. FIRST EDITION OF A FOUNDATION OF MODERN PATHOLOGICAL ANATOMY. "Morgagni's contribution to the understanding of disease may well rank with the contributions of Vesalius in anatomy and Harvey in physiology" ( Heirs of Hippocrates ). Morgagni, Professor of Anatomy at Padua, used evidence from his experience and records of over 700 post-mortem dissections to establish a procedure for basing diagnosis and treatment on a detailed knowledge of the symptoms of common diseases.
