PRINTED ON VELLUM. 398 gravure plates by Hallett Hyatt, of which 131 are duplicate plates finely hand-coloured and finished with gold, each plate with a printed guard. Original vellum, metal centre- and corner-pieces with the ciphers of prominent miniaturists, catches and clasps, green morocco doublures tooled in gilt and with floral morocco onlays, the doublures inset with 23 hand-painted miniatures probably on vellum after works reproduced in the catalogue, the free endpapers with green watered-silk doublures, each volume with multiple silk place-marks with cast metal tassels, original cloth slipcases (some place-marks with some wear or lacking tassel, light wear to slipcases). Provenance : H.M. Fletcher, bookseller (cost code dated May 1974). FIRST EDITION. NUMBER 15 OF 20 COPIES PRINTED ON VELLUM, WITH HAND-COLOURED PLATES HEIGHTENED WITH GOLD, AND THE BINDING INSET WITH 23 HAND-PAINTED MINIATURES. Morgan's passion for buying the finest extant works by the rarest of the early masters is reflected in the superb production of the plates which document his collection; the hand-coloured plates in particular highlight the great quality and delicacy of Morgan's miniatures.
