Tin and cast iron barrel form with red sunburst design at each end, dia. 12.25 in., ht. 14.5 in., wd. 24.25 in. Slotted cast iron lid with latch & padlock closure, with decorative red scrollwork along each side of closure. Although unmarked, this ballot box bears the same sunburst design that was featured on a mule-mounted ballot box manufactured by George D. Barnard & Co. of St. Louis, MO, which Cowan's offered at auction in May of 2003. Condition: Some minor dents along the ends of the box; some wear to the painted details.
