Full blue morocco gilt with the ticket of Lawrence Asylum Press, Madras. 7 7/8 x 6 inches (20 x 15 cm); 65, [1] pp., and twelve mounted albumen prints of game (on guarded eleven card mounts), each captioned in ink; one of the twelve is a stereo pair. Some relatively minor rubbing to the binding, some foxing to the text, the tones of the images generally good. Bookplate of F.P. Williamson. An exceptionally rare work on Indian big game hunting (and an early work mentioning game photography). We trace no copies on OCLC, COPAC or the British Library. Bound (and probably printed) at a press associated with the asylum for military orphans, the book discusses a shikar trip to the Hassanoor Valley with a friend (A.M.D.), starting July 27th, 1865 and ending September 23. The duo's bag (detailed at the end of the work) included three elephants, seven bears, one tiger and a variety of bison, sheep and antelope.
