Nach Adriaen van Ostade (1610 Haarlem - 1685 ebenda) 5-tlg., Serie von fünf Bauerninterieurs mit Darstellung der Fünf Sinne, Öl auf Holz, je 22-22,5 cm x 32-32,5 cm, restauriert; Die Gemäldeserie orientiert sich an einer Bildfolge des Künstlers Adriaen van Ostade aus Haarlem. Der Verbleib der Bildfolge ist heute unbekannt und sie gilt als Ausgangspunkt für einige Kopien, da sich das Thema im 17. Jahrhundert großer Beliebtheit erfreute. Während heute nur noch einzelne Bilder nachweisbar sind, ist die komplette Folge aller fünf Gemälde ausgesprochen selten. Die vorliegende Bildfolge lässt sich in dieselbe Zeit datieren wie die verschollenen Vorlagen, also etwa in die Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts. Dabei dürfte es sich um die Werke handeln, die 1884 in einer Auktion bei Heberle versteigert wurden. Im Auktionskatalog findet sich für ein Bild der Hinweis auf eine Signatur und eine Datierung: 'Co. Mahu 1646'; diese Bezeichnung ist jedoch heute nicht mehr auffindbar. Eine Zuschreibung an Cornelis Mahu erscheint letztlich auch nicht überzeugend, sodass der Künstler eher in van Ostades direktem Umfeld zu suchen ist. The whereabouts of van Ostade's series is currently unknown, but it is known to have formed the basis for various copies as the motifs were highly popular throughout the 17th century. However, very few of these works have survived to the present day and complete series with all five paintings are highly rare. The present series can be dated to the mid-17th century, around the same time as the lost prototypes. They may be the same works recorded as being auctioned by Heberle in 1884. The auction catalogue mentions a signature and date of 'Co. Mahu 1646' on one of the works, but this is no longer visible today.
