A 2pp. a.l.s by the author to 'Lord Houghton', a second 4pp. letter tipped-in, extra illustrated with a stereoscopic plate of the author, and two more albumen-print photographs tipped-in, plus bound in newspaper cutting relating to the Modoc Indians. Contemporary brown morocco (rubbing to extremities). Note: also loosely inserted is the author's card, and another 2 hand-written letters from him, plus one other letter from Frank Leslie, publisher and illustrator. The correspondence included gives an indication of the affection that the poet and Western frontiersman held for Robert Milnes-Crewe. Provenance: The West Horsley Place Collection.
