(Naturalia) 2 Vols. (Pennant, Thomas.) British Zoology. Class I, Quadrupeds. II. Birds. Published under the inscription of the Cymmrodorian Society, 1766. Tall folio, modern buckram. With 132 hand-colored plates (11 quadrupeds, 121 birds). Small old repairs to verso of title page and several text leaves - pages 64, 129/130, 139/140, 151/152, 159/160; larger repair to corner of text page 143/144 (a few lines of text supplied in old ink manuscript). Light to moderate offsetting on text from plates, occasional small dust smudging to plates, a few plates with light foxing (including plates 15 and 48), a few plates with bird identifications given in ink manuscript, small repairs (primarily on versos) of plates 76, 77, 82, 83, 89, 91, 96, 98, 99, 105, 115, 122; small chips to blank bottom fore edge corners of plates 4, 5, 6, 7, and 64, blank corner of plate 70 (Male Heron) breaking off - touching platemark. Ex-library: perforated stamps on general title page, Water Fowl part title, and last leaf of "Catalogue of British Birds;" ink stamps at foot of dedication page, and verso of plate 70 (Male Heron); labels on endpapers. With the exception of plate 70 (Male Heron), all plates are free of library markings. But on the whole a tall, internally attractive set. Anker 392; Brunet IV, 478.
