Naval interest, a set of three George III silver Old English pattern tablespoons, by Wallis and Hayne, London 1809, the reverse of the terminals inscribed 'The Owners of the Adventure of Whitby to Captain Simpson', approx. weight 6.9oz. (3) HMS Adventure was a barque that the Royal Navy purchased in 1771. She had been the merchant vessel Marquis of Rockingham, launched in 1770 at Whitby. In naval service she sailed with Resolution on James Cook's second expedition to the Pacific in 1772-1775. After her return she served as a store ship until 1779. After being converted into a fire ship in 1780 the Adventure was sold back to her original Whitby owners in 1783 and returned to life as a cargo carrier between Britain and North America. She ended her days wrecked in the North American Saint Lawrence river in May 1811.
