Naval Surgeon.- Prideaux (Robert, naval surgeon, fl. 1798-1817) 8 Autograph Letters signed to members of his family, 19pp. with address panels, Falmouth, At Sea, Royal Naval Hospital Plymouth and elsewhere, 1st May 1798 - 1st November 1817, on his career, "I assisted on the amputation of a mans arm, and like surgery very well", on board ship, "We left Port Royal this morning for a three months cruize - I am sorry to say we are not near so comfortable as when I first joined her...", and being treated himself, "I have been a patient in this Hospital [Royal Naval Hospital Plymouth] under the care of Mr Hammick about a Month am much gratified in being able to say that a considerable improvement has already taken place indeed much more than I expected in the time... the use of the warm salt bath..."; and 4 others, including 2 other family ALs.s. and "Copy of part of the Mail Coach Time Bill", folds, torn where opened, browned, v.s., v.d. (12 pieces).
