Produced by sand-casting impressions filled with molten iron, finished and coated with black lacquer, the jewelry was typically of Neoclassical motif with cameos accents. During the 'Fer de Berlin' in early 1800, the Prussians used wealthy citizen's jewelry to fund the Napoleonic war in exchange for iron using the phrase Ich gab gold fur eisen translated to I gave gold for iron.
