Beschreibung:

Neolithic Age Fayoum Region, Egypt An extremely important and rare blade, this 4,000 – 5,000-year-old Neolithic flint knife exhibits a fossil fish in the matrix of the stone from which it was knapped. Artifacts from the Fayoum Depression in Northwestern Egypt currently provide some of the earliest evidence of Neolithic culture. These remains are important in understanding how Neolithic people adapted to Egypt. The astounding presence of a fossil in this singular piece not only adds a deeper, palaeontological layer of interest, it raises an important question about Neolithic culture: Did the creator of the magnificent artifact select the flint because of the fossil fish inclusion, or did the fossil fish appear during the knapping process? Offered with a certificate of authenticity from art expert Van den Dries Michel of Belgium. Formerly of the Jacques Billen Collection. Measures 16.5 x 3.75 x 0.5in
