Provenance : Joseph Read (contemporary signature on the title page). first edition of allison’s new jersey laws with important provenance. Production of this volume of the last colonial laws of New Jersey was greatly delayed by Governor William Franklin's disagreements with the Assembly as well as the dearth of printing supplies. It is believed that this copy belonged to famed jurist Joseph Reed [alternate spelling], George Washington's aide-de-camp, Adjutant General of the American Army during the American Revolution and a member of the Continental Congress.
