NEWTON, SON & BERRY, London, c.1835 A pair of 3-inch (7.6cm.) diameter miniature table globes, the terrestrial NEWTON'S New & Improved TERRSTRIAL GLOBE Published by Newton, Son & Berry 66 Chancery Lane LONDON made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores, the equatorial graduated in degrees, the meridian at 30°W and graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the oceans with tracks of Biscoe, Cook, Clark [sic] and Gore, Antarctica showing Enderby's Land but no Wilkes Land, the continents outlined and shaded in green, pink and yellow and showing rivers, mountains, deserts, towns, cities and the Great Wall of China ( some areas of varnish loss and discolouration and abrasion, crack to Pacific Ocean ); the celestial NEWTON's Improved Pocket Celestal GLOBE made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores laid to the celestial poles, the equatorial graduated in degrees and hours, the colures graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments and shaded in green and yellow, the stars shown to several orders of magnitude but with no key, some labelled with Greek letters ( varnish loss, abrasions and discolouration, several cracks ); both spheres in later mountings, with unengraved brass meridian, the mahogany horizon with colour copied paper ring with graduations in degrees, compass directions, days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac, on four baluster turned legs united by turned cross stretchers -- 5¼in.
