NEWTON & SON. Newton's New and Improved Celestial Globe having been calculated for the year 1830 manufactured by Newton & Son 66 Chancery Lane and 3 Fleet St. Temple Bar, [circa 1850] A celestial library globe, diameter 21 inches (53 cm), overall height 43 inches (109 cm). The globe made up of 2 sets of 12 hand-coloured engraved gores, decorated with constellatia figures, background coloured green, stars depicted in seven orders of magnitude. Lightly varnished, metal pinions (light discolouration of varnish, upper hemisphere with several burn marks). The globe set in a brass meridian circle graduated on one face, hand-coloured engraved horizon circle (several sections worn and torn away). The globes mounted on English style mahogany tripod stands, horizon supported by four quadrants to a turned column, with three cabriole legs, castors (lacking compass).
