NICHOLSON, WILLIAM (& OTHERS - COLLECTION) COL An autograph book of signatures collected from diners at Mrs Cook's Restaurant, Denman Street, Piccadilly., c.1931-40. The celebrated restaurant (sadly destroyed during the Blitz) boasted a mural in the dining area specifically painted for the premises by William Nicholson and Nicholson's is the first autograph in the book, dated Jan 5th [1931]. Numerous other autographs including Merle Oberon etc. Album size approx. 5 x 6½", bound in handsome morocco gilt, some minor wear to corners and spine ends. An intriguing collection, that includes a 1933 Daily Mirror newsclipping concerning guests being encouraged to sign their names on the wall at Mrs Cook's, plus a photograph of the restaurant featuring Nicholson's West-Indian themed mural.
