Collection particulière du Sud de la France.Catalogue noteExecuted with a skilled, sure hand and a very lively brushstroke, this painting portrays an aristocratic young man, perhaps fifteen years old, wearing a voluminous red coat. He stands on the terrace of what appears to be a palace, overlooking a town that is presumably imaginary, but painted with energy and verve, recalling some examples of northern Italian or Venetian landscapes painted in the 1700s.
This ambitious portrait, whose quality is remarkable, was very probably painted by an artist in northern Italy at the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It is particularly close to the work of Jacob Ferdinand Voet (1639-1689).____________________________________________
