IN THE MANNER OF LORENZO BARTOLINI EARLY 19TH CENTURY
Decorated to the front with the arms of Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy (1805-1814) used during the reign of Napoleon as King of Italy
113.5cm high, the top 38cm square, the base 42cm square
These arms relate to the Kingdom of Italy, a client state of Napoleon's French Empire established in Italy in 1805 with Napoleon established as its King, and his stepson Eugène de Beauharnais as his viceroy. This pedestal is a rare survivor of a brief tenure of Royalty lasting just 9 years
The attribution is based upon a pair of pedestals commissioned by Thomas Thynne, 5th Viscount Weymouth (1765-1837), son of the Marquis of Bath of Longleat, in Florence from Lorenzo Bartolini (1777-1850) formerly with Thomas Coulborn & Sons.
