This early promotional and history of Oklahoma Territory was compiled by O.C. Seely only five years after Oklahoma Territory was opened to official settlement. Guthrie’s charter was submitted to a referendum election on July 23, 1889. “It was approved and remained the fundamental law of the provisional city of Guthrie until legal government was organized on July 28, 1890” –Hargrett Oklahoma Imprints p.195. Seely describes Oklahoma Territory with information on location, rivers, climate, soil, agriculture, stock raising, manufacturing, banks, railroads, etc. Information on the Indian lands opened for settlement, how to get a homestead and homestead laws are provided. Followed by a sketch of Logan, Oklahoma, Canadian, Cleveland, Lincoln, Payne and other counties. Fine descriptions of Guthrie, Oklahoma City, Reno, Edmond, Norman, Chandler and other small towns. The last section of the book deals with the Cherokee Strip and the counties having only letters: K, P, M, Q, etc. This work is profusely illustrated with portraits, commercial buildings, homes, etc. Most of the advertisements are for Guthrie establishments followed by Oklahoma City.
