ABBEY BY ROGER POWELL AND PETER WATERS, Froxfield, Hamps, December 1963: gold- and blind-tooled and -lettered light-blue Oasis morocco, "blocked on calfskin onlays (in the brown range) from printer's zincos drawn by Sheila Waters from 44 reproductions of rubbings of blind panels illustrated in the second of the Oldham titles in this volume, of which the originals are in the collection of Major J.R. Abbey. Matching chemise and slipcase" (typed binder's report pasted in), ink impressions of the same zincos on pastedowns, gilt edges. Provenance : Major J.R. Abbey (bookplate, a few autograph marginal notes, his sale at Sotheby's, sixth portion, 19 October 1970, lot 2768). The first book contains Oldham's Sandars Lectures of 1949, both remain the standard works on their subjects. The elaborately inlaid binding is in BRIGHT CONDITION, its colors perfectly preserved.
