One of the lesser known marques to be built in Nottingham was the Campion, assembled and marketed by the Campion Cycle Co. Ltd. at their Robin Hood Street works between 1901 and 1925. Already established in the cycle manufacturing business in Victorian days, the move to motorcycle manufacture was a natural development. Early engine suppliers to Campion included Minerva and Fafnir but post Great War models were generally Villiers, Precision or J.A.P. powered. The Campion factory was to build New Gerrards for Jock Porter in 1924-1926. This delightful, rare and most original side valve 350, was acquired in 1967 for the Museum from that well-known Dumfries collector, the late Bob Grant. Careful restoration included welding of the cylinder barrel and new tyres were fitted. A handsome machine, it is presented in black livery with gold lining and lettering and offered with old green log book and Swansea V5 document.
