Almost a quarter of a century after the last example left the Crewe factory, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow - one of this illustrious British company’s most successful models ever - remains an imposing and highly desirable motor car. And while the passage of time and the vicissitudes of multiple ownership changes have left many in dire need of extensive - and costly - refurbishment, a diminishing yet increasingly sought after handful have escaped these ravages. Incorporating all the ‘Series II’ improvements, the car offered here is a fine example of the latter. Acquired new from (now defunct) Lincoln franchised dealer Mansbridge, it was first registered in the name of the present owner’s farm company, later passing into his private ownership. The vehicle has only ever been used privately by the vendor and thus is effectively a one-owner car. Mansbridge closed down shortly after the car’s first service, and the fact that only a very limited mileage (14,353) has been covered from new means that service records are few. Living in a remote part of rural Lincolnshire and covering a relatively low mileage annually, the vendor deemed it unnecessary to make lengthy and expensive trips to agents for servicing, preferring to use local qualified and experienced engineers. However, he advises us that circa 1988 the vehicle underwent a major service at agent Armstrong Massey. At that time the recorded mileage was approximately 13,500. A 1985 MoT records the mileage as 12,800, while sundry MoT certificates for the intervening period to date confirm the unusually low mileage of approximately 1,500. Two years ago a new exhaust was fitted and the original tyres, although only part worn, replaced as a precaution, since when only 50 miles have been covered. Finished in Regal Red with Everflex roof and leather interior in beige, ‘NTL 700P’ is a most attractive vehicle; apparently dent and corrosion free, and with its original paintwork, upholstery, wood veneer and chrome trim in excellent, virtually blemish free condition. Offered with road fund licence to October 2004, MoT to May 2005 and Swansea V5 registration document, it represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire an unmolested Silver Shadow in exceptionally well preserved original condition offered from long-term careful ownership.
