Title: Original albumen photograph of Fort Mead, Dakota Territory, c.1878, headquarters of the Seventh Cavalry Author: Place: Publisher: Date: c.1878 Description: Image measures 19x25 cm (7½x9¾"), on original mount. The photograph is believe to have belonged to Union officer Myles Moylan, and was acquired by the present owner with a copy of James Longstreet's reminiscences of the Civil War which had Moylan's pencil ownership signature. Following the Civil War, Moylan joined the Seventh Cavalry, serving on the frontier during the Indian Wars, and fought at the Battle of the Little Bighorn as commander of Company A, which was part of the battalion under the command of Major Marcus Reno, for which participation he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was also present at the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890. and retired from service in 1893. Lot Amendments Condition: Some fading and light foxing, very good. Item number: 283320a
