Paint-decorated Poplar Paneled Blanket Chest, Genesee County, New York, c. 1846, the lift top with applied molded edge opens above the box with three-panel front and paneled sides, later surface, the box painted salmon, the panels painted blue, all with thick black borders and ovolo corners, the backboard lettered "Myron Sutherland/Batavia Genesee Co. N.Y. 1846/Feb 21st," (imperfections and paint wear), ht. 18, wd. 34 1/2, dp. 16 1/4 in. Note: Myron Sutherland was born about 1822 and is listed in the 1850 United States Federal Census as living in Batavia, Genesee County, New York. The last census record he appears in is the 1900 Federal Census where he is documented as still living in Batavia at the age of 78.
