Pair of Guild of Handicraft Ltd. Enameled Sterling Silver Candlesticks London, circa 1901 Each tapering columnar standard continuing to a tall cylindrical candle holder and shallow drip cup, the lower section of triangular form, each side decorated with a single flower blossom in repousse and green enamel, on ball feet. Height 9 3/4 inches.
The hallmarks appear once on each of the candle sockets and once on the flat panels below, slightly off center to thebase of the flower stem. The Guild of Handicraft mark is a rectangular box with contact corners, containing G.H. Ltd; the date letter is a lower case "f" leopard head for London Enameling on both candlesticks appears to be intact and in good condition; Candlestick A: on two of the three edges there is a slight separation where the flat triangular-shaped silver sheet comes into contact with the top of the lower section (at mid-height); also, one of the extending tip edges on this sheet is bent down; also, there are solder marks (slight dark discoloration) on the top side, located around the base of the columnar shaft that comprises the upper half of the candlestick; the outer rim edge of the drip cup is very slightly bent. Candlestick B: the only apparent condition issue appears to be that one of the angled decorative double columnar legs (on the lower half) is bent outwards, i.e., bowed, and should not be.
