(Title-page and first few leaves with minor marginal worming not affecting text.) Contemporary limp vellum, ties. The funeral services for MARIE LOUISE D'ORLéANS (1662-1689), Queen Consort of Spain, were held at the Cathedral in Mallorca on 8 August 1689. This work contains an account of the funeral and includes the text of the funeral orations delivered by the Canon of Mallorca, MIGUEL DE SERRALTA as well as epigrams in Castillian and Latin. The engraved plate shows the catafalque erected for the young queen, decorated with the royal arms and with Death standing at the top above a royal crown. It was well-known throughout the court of Spain that Marie-Louise was unhappy in her adopted country and in her marriage to Charles II, even though he was very much in love with her. Her sudden death at age twenty-seven nonetheless came as a great shock. While rumors circulated that she had been poisoned because of her inability of have children, it's most likely that the Queen died from appendicitis. Palau 310229.
