.50 rimfire, 20" barrel stamped William Palmer Patent December 22, 1863. Lockplate stamped E. G. Lamson and Co. Windsor, VT 1865. Walnut stock. This firearm was the first bolt action single shot carbine accepted for the U.S. issuance. Condition: Barrel retains ca 99% of original brown finish. Rear sight retains ca 99% original blued finish. Left side of barrel exactly 1.5" back from muzzle, two nominal scratches to finish. Bolt handle retains 100% original bright case coloring. Front barrel band marked with U on right side and subinspector's stamp M on left side. Screw through the front barrel band retains ca 100% original blued finish. Lock and hammer retain ca 100% case color. Trigger bow has 100% case color. Buttplate with 100% original cased colors. Wood has three nominal mars, otherwise mint with pristine cartouches. An extremely fine example.
