A collection of birds-eye view plans of gardens and small parks in the environs of Paris. The work was published in the era of Napoleon III and his city planner Georges-Eugène Haussmann, sometimes celebrated often reviled, who would transform the landscape of Paris. Traditionally the preserve of the aristocracy, the 1850's mark the advent of the public park. Missing plates are nos. 9, 14, 15, 18, 22, 23, 28, 33, 38, 43, 49, 50. There are 2 plates numbered 29 showing views of different parks. Condition: Rubbing and wear to portfolio, joints starting; text leaves toned, light foxing and wear to plates; about very good.
