A signed presentation copy of the first edition account of Peary’s expedition on the Roosevelt . Although Peary claimed to have reached a new “Farthest North” and discovered a new landmass, “Crocker Land,” the latter claim was disproved in 1914 and doubts continue to be cast on his “Farthest” record. Arctic Bib. 13226. Octavo (257 x 177mm). Colored frontispiece, title in red and black, 2 colored folding maps, many in-text photographic reproductions. Publisher’s original green decorated cloth (text block cracked). Provenance : Henry G. Bryant (1859-1932, President of the Geographical Society of Philadelphia; presentation inscription from Peary) – Geographical Society of Philadelphia (bookplate with note of bequest from Bryant) – Explorer Books.
