Provenance : James Brodie (armorial bookplate). FIRST EDITION. Rothschild 1521: "The 'Dedication', ... though signed 'Thomas Percy', is by Samuel Johnson." GOLDSMITH, Oliver (1728-1774). The Haunch of Venison, a Poetical Epistle to Lord Clare . London: G. Kearsley and J. Ridley, 1776. 4°, engraved portrait of the author by Bretherton after Henry Bunbury (half-title missing from recto of frontispiece, a few page numbers cropped, some light browning and staining). 19th-century half tan morocco gilt.
