PHILO Judaeus (c.20 B.C. -c.50 A.D. ). Opera , in Greek. Edited by S. Gelenius, A. Turnèbe and D. Hoeschelius. Paris: s.n., 1640. 2º (335 x 229mm). With the final blank. Title in red and black with large engraved arms of Paris (a galleon) and Louis XIV, woodcut headpieces and initials. (A little worming in top and bottom margins as far as 3I4 touching several headlines, a little worming at end with miniscule damage to text.) Contemporary French light brown morocco, wide gilt border round sides centered with the arms of Louis XIV [Olivier 2494 fer 7], within a semé of crowned Ls [Olivier 2494, cf. fer 15], a semé of crowned Ls and fleurs-de-lys in the spine compartments (skilful repair at head and foot of spine, covers a little rubbed). Provenance : presentation copy from Louis XIV to the Jesuits in the Collège Claramontane – School Prize from them to Pierre Potier, dated 18 August 1654 (both inscriptions on front free endpaper).
