Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus (1651-1708) was a German mathematician, physicist, physician, philosopher, and lens maker. Considered by some as the inventor of European porcelain, he met with and corresponded with Spinoza, Leibniz, and many other philosophers. David Hume (1711-1776) was one of the preeminent figures of the Scottish enlightenment and British philosophy.
