An exceptional 18K gold, enamel and split pearl openface quarter repeating, centre seconds musical automaton watch with concealed erotic scene and enamel in the manner of Dupont, made for the Chinese Market Signed Piguet & Meylan, no. 4906, case stamped FO for Frères Oltramare, circa 1820 With gilt-finished cylinder movement, plain three arm brass balance, repeating on two hammers, musical pin barrel, music stop/start lever underneath the cuvette, the gold cuvette with hinged panel with translucent blue champlevé enamel floral decoration concealing a painted polychrome enamel erotic interior scene depicting an embracing couple, the eccentric white enamel dial with Roman numerals, blued steel moon-style hands, centre seconds, on a painted polychrome enamel forest view with applied vari-coloured gold automaton scene depicting a shepard and shepardess playing musical instruments in unison with the music, a dog and lamb resting at their feet, in circular case with split pearl-set bezel, pendant and bow, the reverse decorated with a painted polychrome enamel scene depicting a lady and the Postillon d'Amour reading a love letter, the band with alternating blue enamel and split pearl-set undulating design, quarter repeating through the pendant, music and automaton activated by a sliding lever in the band, movement stamped under the dial PM in a lozenge for Piguet & Meylan, case stamped FO in a lozenge for Frères Oltramare and numbered 54 mm. diam.
