The preface alludes to Swift: "Inexpressible are the Obligations ... which I have to the admired Doctor Swift, who condescended to peruse the following Poems with the Greatest Kindness and Care, and honour'd them with his Corrections and Remarks; and I hope he will forgive me the Vanity of telling the World how much Candour, Humanity, and Accuracy of Judgment he testify'd on that Occasion." Swift's name also appears amongst the list of subscribers. The author was married to - and eventually divorced from - the scandalous Laetitia Pilkington, a respected poet in her own right. With the same author's Poems on Several Occasions ... To which is added, the Plague of Wealth ... With several Poems not in the Dublin Edition ... Revised by the Reverend Dr. Swift (London, 1731).
