PLATO (427-347 BC). Chalcidij viri clarissimi luculenta Timaei Platonis traductio, & eiusdem argutissima explanation . [Paris:] Josse Bade, 1520.
PLATO (427-347 BC). Chalcidij viri clarissimi luculenta Timaei Platonis traductio, & eiusdem argutissima explanation . [Paris:] Josse Bade, 1520. 2° (293 x 196mm). Title within elaborate architectural woodcut border with printer’s device of a printing workshop at centre, woodcut diagrams, ornamental initials. (Title repaired along inner gutter, and tipped-in, also a few repairs along outer border, lacking last leaf i8 ?blank, a few small wormholes throughout, some browning and spotting, some light waterstaining.) Modern old-style limp vellum from a manuscript leaf, slipcase (new endpapers). Provenance: two early manuscript inscriptions about the work – scored inscription (both on title). A notable edition of Plato's Timaeus , edited by Agostino Giustiniali, bishop of Nebbio, with a translation and commentary by Chalcidius. Adams P-1473; Renouard, Badius III p.170.
