(Without the terminal blank, marginal repairs on H1-2, final three leaves wormed, some browning and spotting.) Modern red morocco gilt, blue and red speckled edges. Third edition, much enlarged, of Porcacchi's beautifully illustrated "island book." The first edition of 1572 included only 30 maps. In this edition is added "Descrittione dell'Istria" and "Descrittione dell'isola d'Elandia, isola de Gotti" with another map. It is otherwise nearly the same as the 1575 second edition. Included are 18 maps of the islands of Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean and 8 (at pp.157-184) of the Americas. American subjects include Temistican (Mexico), Spagnuola, North America, Cuba, Jamaica and San Giovanni. The world map is a reduced rendering of the Paolo Forlani map produced in 1565. All of the maps were engraved by Girolamo Porro of Padua, and each is set within a page of text.
