POST MEDIEVAL SILVER TALL SHIP SEAL MATRIX 17th century AD An elliptical seal matrix with hexagonal-section shank, collar above; intaglio motif of a three-masted sailing barque with detailed rigging and four sails raised, gunports above the waterline, within a pelletted border. 2.24 grams, 17 mm (3/4"). Fine condition, trefoil knop absent, chip to one side. Provenance Found Whicham, Cumbria, UK in 2013 and reported to the PAS under reference LANCUM-79F4C2; disclaimed under the Treasure Act under reference 2013T703. Footnotes The three-masted barque is reminiscent of the Mary Rose , King Henry VIII's flagship, which sank in 1545 in Portsmouth Harbour.
