Title vignette and 27 color illustrations. 12mo, original gilt-decorated maroon cloth, upper cover with inset color pictorial label, g.e., color pictorial endpapers (Linder 2 & 3 [used twice]), owner's ink inscription on half-title, otherwise a very fine copy. FIRST EDITION IN DE-LUXE CLOTH BINDING. Quinby 7(3); Linder, p. 424; V & A 1669. It is believed that Beatrix Potter was involved with the cloth cover design because she said in one of her letters to Warnes, "I will do some sketches of designs for the cover while I am at Melford."
