Published in the series ' Immagini e testi Serie Seconda I ', edited by Luigi Majno and dedicated to the memory of Pound, this edition includes colour facsmilies of seven pages of the oldest surviving copy of Propertius, the Codex Neapolitanus from Wolfenbüttel Library with the incipit and the poems 'translated' by Pound; Pound's 'interpretation' of Propertius's verses printed face to face with the originals; translations of the same verses in Italian (by Roberto Sanesi), French (by Don Saveur Paganelli, in prose) and German (by Georg Luck, in prose); a facsimile reproduction of Pound's fair copy dated Venice 1970 and signed in autograph by the author and also a reproduction of his fair copy of Erat Hora , dated Venice 9 November, 1971; a note on Pound's life and works by Donald Gallup; ' The Venetian Grave ', by Archibald MacLeish (an attempt to reinstate Pound's literary position following the war). While MacLeish sent this to Majno in 1973, he also authorized its publication in the Sunday Review World (New York, 9 February 1974 -- not in Gallup). Pound's Homage to Sextus Propertius was first published in Quia Pauper Amavi (London: The Egoist Press, 1919, cf. lot 789), and later as a separate edition, with some minor changes (London: Faber and Faber Ltd, 1934).
